The Sights and Sounds of Esquivel!
Bar/None is proud to present The Sights and Sounds of Esquivel! a collection of previously unreleased, never-before-heard recordings by Esquivel!, the King of Space-Age Bachelor Pad music. Sadly, the maestro passed away in 2002, but not before living to see his music rediscovered and appreciated by a whole new generation of music lovers. Bar/None’s release of vintage Esquivel recordings were responsible for launching the lounge revival in the 1990s and his music continues to live on in current films and commercials, gracing the stereo systems of swinging cats and kittens of all ages. To date, Bar/None has scanned over 200,000 Esquivel albums.
The Sights and Sounds of Esquivel! stems from an extended 1974 engagement at a Chicago club/restaurant where Esquivel and company were contracted to make a series of recordings to be sold by the La Margarita restaurant chain. The Sights and Sounds of Esquivel! catches the master laying down a set that recreated his live show (right down to overdubbed applause; would you expect anything less!) Juan, his girls – including former wife Yvonne Debourbon Rodriguez (who survives him and supplied the liner notes to this release) -- and his crack backup band keep the grooves coming and the party going. It’s the 1970s baby, bottled and unleashed at last.
